Abstract

Background: Elderly is someone with an age reaching more than 60 years. The elderly experience physical decline, cognitive decline, and social decline. Cognitive impairment can affect the brain's ability to concentrate attention, focus, calculate, decision making, logic and abstract thinking. Brain Gym is a set of simple movements that can balance parts of the brain. Brain Gym is able to improve the cognitive abilities of the elderly. Objectives: This study is to determine the effect of Brain Gym exercises on the level of cognitive impairment among the elderly at Posyandu Bina Sehat, Donohudan, Ngemplak, Boyolali. Methods: This research is a quantitative study with the one-group pretest-posttest method. Hypothesis test used is paired T-test. Brain Gym Exercise intervention was carried out for 8 therapy sessions. The sample was 24 elderly women. Using the MoCa-Ina instrument. Results: The results of this study showed that the sample was dominated by the age of 55-65 years as many as 18 samples (75%) and the latest education was elementary and high school as many as 10 samples (41.7%). From the data normality test analysis using shapiro-wilk with a p value in the pre-test 0.231 and post-test 0.269 it shows the p-value (> 0.05). Hypothesis testing using paired T-test showed that the hypothesis was accepted because the p-value = 0.000. Conclusion: The provision of Brain Gym Exercise Intervention affects the level of cognitive impairment of the elderly in Elderly Posyandu Bina Sehat Donohudan Village, Ngemplak District, Boyolali Regency
